    3. I am currently searching the area of West Prussia, Kreis Rosenburg, Gross Herzogswalde. I ordered the film from LDS and I have found most of my maternal ancestors there, but not the paternal ancestors. For that I will have to look into the neighboring village of Schakenbruch. I was told that this village is in the parish of Bellschwitz. While LDS did not have Schakenbruch listed for films, it did have the civil registration for Bellschwitz. Will I obtain much information from the civil registration? Also, does anyone know of the church that they might have attended in that area if they were Lutheran? Thanks:) Linda

Hi Linda, That depends on the time frame of the civil registration, what information you've already found and what you're trying to find, and what you consider "much information." :) The Bremen Civil Registration records I have used date back to the late 1820s and they are fantastic. Used in conjunction with the church records of the village, I put together the entire family including all children, parents, grand-parents, and great-grandparents in an afternoon. I struck the mother-lode. Of course, it took me three years to get to that point but that's irrelevant <g>. Those civil birth records I used had date of birth, name of each parent with their occupation and birth date. It also had the mid-wife's name and the date the child was registered. The civil marriage and death records included the same info including the names of the parents. I don't recall any of them listing place of birth for the subject, but it's been a while since I looked at them and could be mistaken. As always, content on records varied from locale to locale and epoch to epoch. Good luck, LGO
