Carol, My ancestor, Christian Friedrich Gottlieb L�DKE was a master brick maker also. He lived in Stettin in the early 1800s. Where was your family located? Various cities did have directories of residents that included their occupation. I remember seeing one for Berlin and Stettin had one. The problem is unless you have an unusual surname you can't really tell if it is your ancestor.
