    3. Hi All-Michigan can't make up it mind on the weather either. However, I am doing a little genealogy work. I'm entering surnames and dates into FTM 2006 from the FHL reel of Burow and Speck now. I've gotten Resehl done as far as I can. I too, noticed the list has been slow. I'm searching for Brehmer(Bremer) and Rabenhorst on these films, but I figured since I began looking last summer, I'd just enter what I could decipher no matter what the surname. These are births, deaths and marriages as far as I can see. I've posted most of Resehl(which includes Kannenburg) on the Ancestorhunters group. Does this group have anything like that?

    3. Carolynn touched on something that I have been avoiding/thinking of for over the past 14 years of my research into my five major families of interest. Back in the old days, I almost (notice I said almost) put all my research and findings on Rootsweb (before it was purchased by Ancestry). Since the purchase, the various family group information has been moved to Ancestry and used for it's various pay per view links. This makes me uneasy at it has taken so much time and effort (and finances in some cases) to obtain. I admit that I know nothing of AncestorHunters, who their parent organization is and when you place the information on their site, just who would own the rights to this information. Do you pay for the privilege or can it be likened to the early Rootsweb? Yes, I use Ancestry/MyFamily and some local state/county information (Census and Military) to build and add information to my family groups... always with the source indicator so not to confuse my own research being built upon the research of others. Anyway... bottom line is I am still very uneasy about posting anything other than surnames and events linked to my search group surnames. I may be way off in my uneasiness, curious as to how the general 'Prussia Roots' group feels. 3. Robert's opinion puzzles me- it's not the 1st time I've encountered it; others over the years have expressed the same view. But it seems to me the objective in doing all this work and spending some $ is to contact others researching or possibly related to your own lineage. Then you can fill in your missing ancestry. Personally, I want the entities like Ancestry, Rootweb, etc. to broadcast my info as far and wide as they can! Hoarding it, holding it close to your chest simply makes no sense to me. Would someone please explain? 3. Since you are collecting opinions - I have not added my files to the public sites, because I don't think they are good enough. A mistake in genealogy data makes the "facts" worthless. I, too, could list many crazy mistakes that I have seen for my immediate family. I have 12,000 names between my family and my husband's, and I don't want to be responsible for perpetuating erroneous information. When I began this hobby/obsession, I did not cite sources or document very well. Many of the names I have are "borrowed" from the public sites, for whose existence I *am* grateful. They are a starting point for me. I then do my own verification, and then add my own sources. Using the sites, but not contributing my tree, may seem hypocritical to some. One way I do contribute is by submitting corrections to RootsWeb and Ancestry.com files [both census corrections and family tree corrections], only when I am sure that I have my facts straight. It's unfortunate that there is not a system in place to correct data on the FamilySearch pages. I do use the message boards and lists, and prefer to work in a more controlled setting, sharing with a person or group where I can ask questions, share, correct my files, explain discrepancies, etc. I am more than happy to share my trees with close family, or cyber-families who I trust, because I know who has them, and I can send corrections and updates. Should they choose to publish this info . . . well, I guess that is out of my control. I have no copyrights, but would hope they credit me as a source. Kathleen
