    3. A 1782 baptismal record in Stettin, Pommern notes the grandfather as being "ein Colonist". Does anyone know what this might have meant at this period of time? Thanks. Veronica

    3. Veronica, Colon (Kolon) or Colonist was a generic term for a farmer. He didn't necessarily own a piece of land, but had rights to a piece of land. From the Latin colonia meaning "settled land, farm".
