    2. Kathy Hines
    3. Hi listers - Can someone help me read the writing on ancestry.com for this town of Difsen(?) or Dissen near Hannover. Some of my Menke family came from Bünde, just west of Hannover, so I'm hoping Difsen is in really close proximity. New Orleans Passenger Lists > 1842 > June > Friedrich Jacob Port of Departure: Bremen, Germany Place of Paternity, Country from whence they come, occupation, where they intend to go 164 Menke, Ernst Fried., 25, Difsen(?), do, Smith, New Orleans 184 Menke, Aug. Hin, 28, Difsen(?), Hannover, Smith, New Orleans I'd eventually like to find FHL film numbers for which ever town this turns out to be. --------- census records -------------------------- I *think* this might be this August Men(c)ke. 1850 United States Federal Census Missouri > St Louis (Independent City) > St Louis Ward 2 > Page 131 811 1113 Augst Mencke, 40, m, Blacksmith, Germany Louisa, 50, f, Germany Louisa, 23, f, Germany Lisette, 21, f, Germany Caroline, 14, f, Germany Gottlieb, 10, m, Germany I know this is my Ernst Men(c)ke: Federal Census on the 14th of Sept, 1850 for Jefferson Township, Clayton Co., IA Enumerated by Elipholet There is a big fat piece of old scotch tape over the first name of the head of household, but I'm reasonably certain that the name should be Ernest or Ernst.
