Hi Bronwyn Thanks so much for the information. I'll go through it all and work out what I need to do next. I certainly would like to trace further back and hopefully my grandmother's birth records will provide some leads. I'd be most interested in your recommendation for a Polish researcher. Some idea of cost would also be really great. Thanks again Bronwyn! Cheers, Maria :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bronwyn Klimach" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 09, 2009 10:32 PM Subject: Re: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Birth record 1911 - Narzym Hi Maria, You can usually contact Polish Archives in English, but their reply will be in Polish; to date the archives do not accept credit card payment. You should be able to find contact details and whether these records are extant from their site: http://baza.archiwa.gov.pl/sezam/pradziad.php?l=en You may already have realised that if the records you require are less than 100yrs old they will not be in Polish Archives. This article will give you the information you need: https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Poland_Archives_and_Libraries and there is more background about Civil Registration here: https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Poland_Civil_Registration-_Vital_Records Are you likely to then wish to trace the family further back in time? If so I would suggest that you start of by hiring a Polish researcher, as in the long run this will save you a lot of time and contacting different offices etc. If you would like a recommendation I am happy to do so. Kind regards, Bronwyn Klimach.
