    1. Re: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Proximity of Massowitz and Lemberg (Pommern)?
    2. Debra, The place called "Lemberg" seems difficult to locate in that area of Pommern, but I think "Neustadt" might be the clue. Around 1820, there was a place called Neustadt, just to the north of Treten in Kreis Rummelsburg. This was just west of Massowitz and Kreis Butow. Neustadt must have been a very small place, because it was associated with the village of Treten (now Dretyn, Poland.) If you are looking for places near Massowitz, perhaps this is the area you are looking for. It doesn't answer the Lemberg question, but it seems logical this might be the Neustadt you mentioned. There are other Neustadts, but they are not in the proximity of Massowitz. If you want to find any records for people in this particular Neustadt, you should probably look for those of Treten. This place was located just north of the town of Rummelsburg and west of Rohr. I have located Neustadt, Treten and Rohr on an 1820 map of Prussia and have located Dretyn (Treten) and Trcinno (Rohr) on a current map of Poland. Rummelsburg is now Miastko, Poland. At one time, this Neustadt may have been called "Bialobrez," but it is not on a current map of this area of Poland. For what it's worth, there was a place called "Kornburg" just east of the town of Rummelsburg and this may be helpful in case Lemberg was poorly written and difficult to decipher. Kornburg (Chlebowo, Poland) was also a very small place and was associated with Schwessin (Swieszyno.) Karen B. Whitmer **************Access 350+ FREE radio stations anytime from anywhere on the web.
