    1. [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] how do I find...
    2. Does anyone know how I can find information on my ggrandfather. Here is what I have so far... Piotr (peter) Tajdus arrived N.Y. 25 Aug 1909 wife Aniela, arrived same date son Ladislaus, same date. They moved to Chicago. Piotr then died the next month. I called the Polish Cemetery in Chicago, Resurrection cemetery, and they have his DOD as, 26 Sep 1909 That is all I know. The family members that could answer questions have all passed. I cannot find this man anywhere else in all of the searches I tried. Could someone point me in the right direction? Besides his tombstone info., shouldn't there be a death certificate? I cannot find one. Thank you, Elizabeth Sadecki-Davis **************Make your summer sizzle with fast and easy recipes for the grill. (http://food.aol.com/grilling?ncid=emlcntusfood00000005)

    3. Hello Elizabeth: Illinois did not require the filing of death certificates until 1916 so it is not surprising that you haven't found one. He was probably buried from a Catholic Church if you could find the correct one. Having been here only a month one would have to wonder how Aniela would have afforded a cemetery lot for Piotr. Perhaps a call to the cemetery will give you further info. Perhaps he is buried in a plot belonging to a previously arrived relative. I looked for them on Ellis Island and there is an entry, however it does not open to the correct page on the manifest. In fact it doesn't open to the ship noted in the text manifest. I see there is an entry for Ladislaus on the Ancestry version of New York arrivals but I do not subscribe so am not able to view it. I believe it would give info as to who they would be going to join in the US. They do not show up in any census records for 1910 or 1920, even using some creative searching. I searched the Illinois State Archives data base but found no entries including coroner records. Hope you have some better luck. Sheila K.
