Jackie, and Lyn, Lyn's email has been sent to everyone who subscribes to the Prussia-roots list, as has yours Jackie. SoLyn should have received it, along with the rest of us on the list :)) You will receive all manner of queries, and hopefully learn from the answers that get posted to them. If they do not interest you directly it is still a good idea to read them and learn about how others are solving their genealogy problems!! Lyn, I've had a quick look at a few sites and not come up with anything obvious about your family. The most important thing you need to find to try and research them in what was Prussia is the name of the villages, or collection of towns and villages, they were connected with in Prussia. You need to carefully search out all available records in Australia to see if such a location is listed. Many Church books give more detail than is on certificates, and some priests/pastors kept a sort of family roll, listing all the family members and where they were born. In my case this was crucial for finding my ancestors. The Christian names change in the expected way for a family moving from Prussia to an English speaking region of Australia; do you know if there are variations of the surname Rust? Are there shipping records - do you know the year of emigration? At this stage it is difficult to know which of the family stories will turn out to be 'reliable'. Have you also looked at NAA records http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/ResearcherScreen.asp and Aussie newspapers? http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home Kind regards, Bronwyn. That was a very kind response you just made here. ?So often, a newbie to genealogy is also a newbie to email "on a massive scale". ?We all had to learn somehow and at some time about both. al -----Original Message----- From: Bronwyn Klimach <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sun, Jun 28, 2009 3:41 pm Subject: Re: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] RUST surname - ?
