All I have are their names, no birthdates, no former addresses, nothing. I tried to get a copy of my grandmother's birth certificate in the hopes that such information would be written on it, but the Standesamt I in Berlin said they don't have her birth certificate. I also contact the Kirchlicher Suchdienst in Stuttgart and they have no records for my family as neither does the LKVA. > > Great Grandfather: Gustav Nissen, mechanic - guessing he was born around 1895 - 1900 > Great Grandmother: Frieda Nissen born Podschu[c]k. > > This information came from a Meldekarte (Registration card) for my grandmother from when she lived in Nuernberg. > > Thank you for any assistance. > > Claudine, Yes, I have read that Nissen is a name of Danish-German heritage so it is possible that way back a few more generations part of the family came from Denmark but the first generation I need to track is definitely German from Koenigsberg, East Prussia, now Kaliningrad, Russia. > Message: 3 > Date: Fri, 19 Jun 2009 08:45:36 -0400 > From: Nichole Martinson <[email protected]> > Subject: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Military Records - NISSENS and PODSCHU[C]KS - > Koenigsberg > > Can someone please tell me where I might be able to find Wehrpass (draft card or service records) for Koenigsberg during World War I and World War II? Yes, all towns are spelled correctly. I believe Wehlau was near Koenigsberg, now Kaliningrad, about 50 km or so. I live in Germany and am going directly to German sources when available. There has been nothing on anyone in my family on any microfiche because none of them went to the U.S. So I just trying to find new places to look. Thanks again. > From: "Karl Roussin" <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Military Records - NISSENS and > PODSCHU[C]KS -Koenigsberg > To: <[email protected]> > Message-ID: <[email protected]> > Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; > reply-type=original > > Nichole > Following is a link to Military archives in Germany. > > http://home.bawue.de/~hanacek/info/earchive.htm > > I checked the IGI and batch numbers for the prior e-mail that You sent , > and did not find anything. > Are those towns names the right spelling of the town ?. > > A lot of times the records are not copied by the LDS at this time. > > A lot of times the men are really not using Their first name that the > baptism record shows , because the bapism names are honorary first names and > They never use those baptism honorary first names again . > > Karl Roussin HI Sheila, Yes definitely East Prussia and the German archives have no records for my family from there. It's very difficult and so for the LDS files don't have anything either so I still search... > Hello Nichole: Keep in mind that there were/are two Konigsbergs > (K?nigsberg) - One formerly located in East Prussia and known since 1945 as > Kaliningrad, Russia, The other is located in Brandenburg, also until 1945 a > former province of Germany.
