The Prussia-Roots mailing list probably isn't the best place to start because your fellow was from Galicia, then under Austrian control, if the 1909 ship manifest is accurate. Piotr, Aniela and Ladislaus all come from "Tymbarle" (probably Trembowla, now Terebovlia in western Ukraine). Generally speaking there should be death certificate in Cook County for Piotr. I can't find one online at the moment, either through the LDS free site http://search.labs.familysearch.org or the subscription site at ancestry.com. However not all death certificates are indexed yet. It's also possible that Piotr's surname was improperly indexed or spelled differently. Since the cemetery has a date of death (or burial), why not call them back and ask them what the source is for the date? If they have a copy of the death certificate they may be willing to share information with you, or at least tell you what the certificate number is. Then you can order it directly from Cook County vital records. The more challenging task will be finding information on Piotr from Galician records. It might be more productive to follow Ladislaus to see whether there are any Chicago-area records for him. One may give a birthplace for him, and that could lead to a better understanding of where this family originated. Regards, Debra MacLaughlan-Dumes http://sakionline.net/familypage
