Hello savvy researchers, In trying to piece together who my German family was, like many, I am running into some stumbling blocks, which I am hoping you more experienced researchers might be able to help in. I only have a couple of names, no significant dates or addresses and an assumed location, which is hindering my search. Can someone please tell me where I might be able to find Wehrpass (draft card or service records) for Koenigsberg during World War I and World War II? I hope that perhaps some family members were military because then there might be records supporting their existence. great grandfather - Gustav Nissen, mechanic by trade, probably born around 1895 - 1900 his wife's father, so my great great grandfather - Fritz (probably Friedrich) Podschuck. Wilck & Partner Beratungsgesellschaft bR reports that they have a state railway record from Wehlau, with an inspector last name Podschuck, no first name.Thank you for any assistance. Nichole
Nichole Following is a link to Military archives in Germany. http://home.bawue.de/~hanacek/info/earchive.htm I checked the IGI and batch numbers for the prior e-mail that You sent , and did not find anything. Are those towns names the right spelling of the town ?. A lot of times the records are not copied by the LDS at this time. A lot of times the men are really not using Their first name that the baptism record shows , because the bapism names are honorary first names and They never use those baptism honorary first names again . Hello Nichole: Keep in mind that there were/are two Konigsbergs (Königsberg) - One formerly located in East Prussia and known since 1945 as Kaliningrad, Russia, The other is located in Brandenburg, also until 1945 a former province of Germany. Both have had a plethora of records filmed by the LDS. As for military records, unless they were in possession of your ancestors, there is not much available as most military records were destroyed in WWII. Hope this helps. Sheila K.
