Doris The answer to your question of wether Sachsen was part of Prussia in the 1860's is both yes and no. Let me explain: The Kingdom of Sachsen, which was the was the part closest to the border to Boehmen was not part of Prussia. The Provinz Sachsen to the north-west of the Kingdom was part of Prussia. The Herzogtum of Sachsen-Anhalt was not part but was associated with Prussia. For the Kingdom of Sachsen this was true from about 1815 to 1918, after which the German Reich was formed and all came under Prussia. Sachsen Anhalt sort of was in and out at different times, but was mostly associated with prussia during the approximately 100 years Source: Historischer Atlas Deutschland 1997 Hope this helps.
