If they were Missouri Synod Lutheran, write Concordia Historical Society in St. Louis with $20.00 and they will look it up for you. They had the hometown in Germany for my great grandparents who listed Prussia and Mecklenburg on their wedding information. You can Google them for the address. Also the manifest where they left Germany also lists the town. Mine were on the Hamburg list and they matched the church records. Hi M, Concordia Historical Institute in St. Louis - http://chi.lcms.org/ - is indeed a valuable resource, especially if your ancestor (or whomever you are looking for) was a pastor or teacher. They have records of their places of service, and often have very detailed obits. You were fortunate, M, that Concordia Historical Institute had the records you needed. The congregational records they have are only what individual churches have sent them. They also have a collection of family-submitted documents.
