Does anyone have information about the Heydekrug Evacuation of civilians in 1944 as the Red Army advanced toward Memel/Heydekrug and/or what happened to those who did not evacuate? I've found a living cousin in Germany who fled as a young boy but he doesn't seem to want to talk about it and I know I have at least 2 relatives that stayed behind and were murdered -- can't find my great grandpa (George Klinger). I'm interested in the history of that event as well as any genealogy resources that would help locate citizens from that time/area. Thanks.
