    3. Augusta I'm sure that many/most of us have heard of these documents, but I for one have never seen one. I presume that most of these documents were lost over the years after the emigrant arrived in their final destination country. You would be performing a great service for all of us if you could scan the document and post it. I don?t think it was an official passport, but it was necessary in order to leave the country. I have it ? it?s wonderful ? lists his pob/dob, his wife?s name & stats, and their daughter?s as well !!

    3. Hi, Bill, Lorene, et alii, I was wondering how I would post a scan to the list, but you have answered my question. I have already scanned the emigration document AND my grandfather’s military papers as well, but I’m not sure if they are discharge papers or just a record of service that he kept. THe word <BESTIMMUNGEN> is on the first page in bold print. It is 4 pages long. Anyone who wants to see either/both, just let me know via the list and I’ll gladly send the scan(s). If you prefer to contact me offlist, my ID is abelmwood and I have a g-mail e-mail account. One small correction: the p.o.b. for his wife & daughter are not stated, but the birth dates are, as well as his wife’s maiden name. BTW, Mona, how odd... my Johann was also born on August 3 (but in 1833).
