Hullo Timmy Thanks for that - I do know that Anna Catherina's stated place of birth was Bremerhaven (Lutheran Archives of South Australia)- she was born 1827 Cord Friedrich and Mary's place of origin on shipping records was Bremen - they travelled here in 1854 so they would have been included in the Census I have looked at the 1852 Hanover Census and it shows one GREVE in Amt Achim which takes in Bremen; Amt Hoya GREVE 2, 3 and THIEDE one; and in Stadt Bodenwerder one GREVE I would hazard a guess that Amt Hoya would be the area - again takes in Bremen. Is there a possibility of this census being looked up? I tried to look at the parish registers on the Census site but was not able to GREVE is noted spelled in ancient times - Middle-Low German as GRAEVE, middle German as GRAEBE, GREBE. All of these spellings have been used here at some time in South Australia I have joined the Niedersachsen Rootsweb group - thankyou for all the other sites Regards Chris in Hahndorf South Australia _____ From: prussia-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:prussia-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Timmy Sent: Tuesday, 5 April 2011 8:29 PM To: prussia-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Bremerhaven / Friedrich GREVE Hello Chris! sorry, but there wasn't a "Bremerhaven" in the birth year of Cord Friedrich GREVE (1795), maybe he lived there at the time he emigrated to Australia, are there any other place names known? it was founded in 1827 by the Hanseatic City of Bremen http://tinyurl.com/4yw96c2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bremerhaven http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bremen http://www.dah-bremerhaven.de/english/english.html today Bremerhaven is surrounded by the country of Niedersachsen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niedersachsen may have a look at the Niedersachsen List: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/DEU/NIEDERSACHSEN.html or the bilingual list of the Kingdom of Hannover: http://list.genealogy.net/mm/listinfo/hannover-l http://boards.ancestry.de/stellen.europa.deutschland.bremen/64/mb.ashx http://www.genealogylinks.net/europe/germany/bremen.htm http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~deubre/ in german: http://forum.ahnenforschung.net/forumdisplay.php?f=18 http://www.genealogienetz.de/vereine/maus/presse/wib12_20.php?lang=en http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/Bremen_%28Bundesland%29 hope it helps! greetings from Germany to Hahndorf in Australia! ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PRUSSIA-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message _____ No virus found in this message.
