    3. Thanks. So far, I don't have funds to search in German archives, & I don't speak German. Mostly, I keep hoping that my gr grandfather had sibblings who may have had descendants who might recognize the name or info. Since I'm working on all branches of my family at the same time, I just keep going back to the brick walls periodically to see what's new. I'm pretty much stuck with email for the forseeable future. Thanks anyway. Judy On Fri, Sep 30, 2011 at 4:01 PM, Mark F Rabideau <genealogy@eirenicon.org>wrote: > Hi Judy > > If you'd like to talk. 3. I had a similar problem in that the best information about my immigrant ancestors that I could find in the ship's passenger manifest was that my Weiss ancestor was from Prussia with no indication of where in Prussia. However, my great-grandparents had settled in New Orleans in 1855 and they had three children in the next few years. I was able to find copies of the Louisiana birth certificates issued to the three, and two of the certificates listed the town, Altenkirchen, as the town where the child's mother had been born. I had no idea at the time that I would find such information in the Louisiana birth records but lucked out.
