Thanks. I'm looking for earlier records. My ancestors left in 1868, lived in Podjass (Podjazy), a small village of about 150 people. Do you know whether any exist for the earlier time period? Would villages have taken census for tax purposes? On 9/29/2011 2:32 AM, Stefan Rückling wrote: > Lorene, > > since the 01 Oct. 1874 there were civil records in Prussia. Lorene, Podjass belonged to the parish Sullenschin. What confession you are looking for ? Protestant or catholic ? Both church registers where filmed by the LDS church: Catholic church registers: 1706-1938. Protestant church registers: only 1863-1878 (other Protestant church registers are destroyed). Tax purposes and other documents of Podjass are in the State Archive in Danzig (Gdansk).
