Hi Maria, You can usually contact Polish Archives in English, but their reply will be in Polish; to date the archives do not accept credit card payment. You should be able to find contact details and whether these records are extant from their site: http://baza.archiwa.gov.pl/sezam/pradziad.php?l=en You may already have realised that if the records you require are less than 100yrs old they will not be in Polish Archives. This article will give you the information you need: https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Poland_Archives_and_Libraries and there is more background about Civil Registration here: https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Poland_Civil_Registration-_Vital_Records Are you likely to then wish to trace the family further back in time? If so I would suggest that you start of by hiring a Polish researcher, as in the long run this will save you a lot of time and contacting different offices etc. If you would like a recommendation I am happy to do so. Kind regards, Bronwyn Klimach. My Great-Grandfather, Emile Louis Bruno Clement, was born in Muskau in 1844 - he was the son of a Muskau official called Emile Alexander Clement (who was born around 1793) - He arrived in England prior to 1870, by which time he had a PhD (and was known as "Doctor" Clement) - the first mention of him was in the 1871 UK Census, when he was an Assistant Master at Bramham College, Bramham, Yorks (Wetherby - Boston) - Aged 26. Does anyone have any details whatsoever about his life prior to his arrival in the UK, including any information about his birth - and about Muskau itself during the period 1844-1870? John Clement

Hi all, I'm looking for some help to try and verify or refute the following information we have been given about our ancestors. Could anybody please let me know where can I look up this history?? During the reign of Maxamilian II 1527-76, King of Bohemia and of Hungary and "Holy Roman Emperor", a member of the Emperor's bodyguard named Sebastian Schrome, saved the Emperor's life (from assassination ?) at great peril to himself. For this deed he was ennobled under the name of Sebastian von Schramm (Shraum ?), and according to the Patent of Nobility, made a Baron, signed and sealed by the Emperor at Vienna November 2, 1564. The Seal attached to the Parchment is of gold with a heavy gold fringe. Scarlet and Gold are the colours. By a special remainder, the female descendants and their issue, are entitled to use the Crest forever. The members of the family served the state in various ways, in civil and military life. I do have a copy of the Patent of Nobility that was given to my GG Grandfather Maxamillian von Schramm by his brother Victor von Schramm. Thanks for your help in advance. Sue
Would appreciate any help in trying to locate an ancestor who was a General Officer during the Franco-Prussian War. We do not know what his forst name was. Thanks, Dave
Debra, The place called "Lemberg" seems difficult to locate in that area of Pommern, but I think "Neustadt" might be the clue. Around 1820, there was a place called Neustadt, just to the north of Treten in Kreis Rummelsburg. This was just west of Massowitz and Kreis Butow. Neustadt must have been a very small place, because it was associated with the village of Treten (now Dretyn, Poland.) If you are looking for places near Massowitz, perhaps this is the area you are looking for. It doesn't answer the Lemberg question, but it seems logical this might be the Neustadt you mentioned. There are other Neustadts, but they are not in the proximity of Massowitz. If you want to find any records for people in this particular Neustadt, you should probably look for those of Treten. This place was located just north of the town of Rummelsburg and west of Rohr. I have located Neustadt, Treten and Rohr on an 1820 map of Prussia and have located Dretyn (Treten) and Trcinno (Rohr) on a current map of Poland. Rummelsburg is now Miastko, Poland. At one time, this Neustadt may have been called "Bialobrez," but it is not on a current map of this area of Poland. For what it's worth, there was a place called "Kornburg" just east of the town of Rummelsburg and this may be helpful in case Lemberg was poorly written and difficult to decipher. Kornburg (Chlebowo, Poland) was also a very small place and was associated with Schwessin (Swieszyno.) Karen B. Whitmer **************Access 350+ FREE radio stations anytime from anywhere on the web. This confirms another bit of information I had received some time ago without a source. I have been unable to find any church records whatsoever in America for this family so I could not even narrow my search to Protestant or Catholic. The woman he married in New York was from Stargard, which I understand is now in Poland, but their marriage record and the birth of their daughter in New York have not yet turned up in any of my searches. I do find the bride's father in several records, and he was careful to identify his native village as Stargard. Dear Karl, I am so sorry! I found this in my Drafts folder and realized I had never sent it. Please forgive me. I am very grateful for your help, truly. Thank you very much indeed. I surely wish my other ancestors were as considerate.:-) Best regards, Doris > > Date: Fri, 24 Apr 2009 10:27:07 -0500 > From: "Karl Roussin" <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] PRUSSIA-ROOTS Digest, Vol 4, Issue 97 > To: <[email protected]> > Message-ID: <[email protected]> > Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; > reply-type=original > > Doris > Following from the IGI , is a record of a Henry W. Still looking for grandpa, Varsbotter and not grandma, found out her maiden name was Ostertag, somewhere along the line there was a Von in front of her name, a Kaiser made the people take it off, anyone out there with any information. Thanks, Delores
There are many DUX in these emmigration files.? Remember to look under all the names, Carl, Johan, Gottfried...records do not always show the name we think will be used. Also, check the years a couple before and after when you think they immigrated. I have found all kinds of dates in the US records and?none of them are ever exactly the same.? I think as time went on the exact date they arrived wasn't so important. Good luck BJ? http://www.dad-recherche.de -----Original Message----- From: EarlaAngell <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, 29 Apr 2009 8:14 am Subject: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] looking for help with DUX family in Borkendorf West Prussia Hello all -I am new to the list This query is because I do not know how to start with this family . Thank you for posting this site.? I found some elusive relatives there, I had no trouble ordering the information.? I do wish they had one charge for a family instead of each record, but that is OK.? I did have a little trouble with entering the data for the credit card, I had a typo and it does not show in "red" when you have an error so you need to read each line carefully. I would try again... Have you checked FamilySearch.org? I entered Dux and there are many, many listings. Ann In a message dated 4/29/2009 12:39:29 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Nina, how do you pronounce DUX? My brick wall is DEAO, from Germany, and family lore has it that it used to have an "X" on it somewhere. We say DEE'O; some say DAY'O. Thanks - and good luck to you.
