    1. [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Research Assistance in Germany
    2. Don Watson
    3. Hi, Several researchers have retired since I began this in 1993, but I have a new list at........ http://members.cox.net/hessen/hsstory.htm which connects to another list, as well. If you are bashing your head against that proverbial brick wall, maybe you'll want to contact one of these enthusiastic researchers living in Germany. :-) Don Watson

    2. Hello Glen - What a fabulous name! If you have not already found one daughter Luise (German spelling) on familysearch.org, she is there with exact dates and husband Schlosser. I'm sure you're aware you will have to scour all the records in and around Stark and Canton and elsewhere in Ohio and follow all spellings you find. Go to the courthouse and look for her application for marriage license - should have her parents and birthplaces. And where are she and her husband buried? Has anyone photographed the tombstones - crypts, paperwork? And of course, follow her siblings and children. Probate actions. Primary sources are always better than secondary sources, but everything helps. Determining religion is important too. Just a couple tidbits out of a gazillion. Put the name in Google and you will get a famous German singer named Rene Carol, whose birth name was Gerhard Tschierschnitz, from Berlin, of Polish descent. Can't tell the relationship, since he was born 11 April 1920, but possibly there's a connection. That's only going to work if you work backwards from Ohio or wherever else they lived here, as I'm sure you know. I have not looked on Ancestry or for Ohio records - that's certainly going to help. Maureen In a message dated 7/12/2009 2:47:22 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Hi, I am looking for anyone that might have information on the surname Tschierschnitz. 3. Hi Maureen, Thanks for all your advice. Even though I have been pursuing my family history for over 40 years I still have lots to learn about researching my Germanic roots. The focus of most of my past research has been directed to my Swedish roots and there was a lot to learn there in terms of resources and language. Fortunately I was able to learn enough Swedish to interpret the exhaustive Swedish Church Record archives which turned out to be a gold mine. I also received invaluable help from the Sweden-Listers. The Prussia-Roots listers have been immensely helpful in providing direction and I am hopeful that I will be able to have as much success with my German heritage as I had with my Swedish ancestors. Thanks again, JB ----- Original Message ----- > Message: 6 > Date: Fri, 3 Jul 2009 17:17:23 EDT > JB - I just hope you will take the time to learn about genealogy and the > language and names and cultures and history before hunting all over the > place > on your computer for a particular family name. 3. Hi Sheila, After YEARS of trying to find a hint on the Yadea surnme, I am still clueless. The name is from notes my mother collected over the years (decades), but she has no idea of the source. I am currently working on the speculation that Yadea is a phonetically incorrect spelling of the name Gaede (gay-d written as yeah-d). There is some evidence indicating that Ferdinand Morse had a sister, Augusta, who was married to a man named Fred Gaede. Fred and Augusta Gaede lived close to Ferdinand and Anna Morse and in the household of Fred and Augusta Gaede lived Ferdinand Morse, listed in the census as father-in-law. He, the elder Ferdinand Morse, was of an age suggesting that he could be the father of both Augusta Gaede and her neighbor the younger Ferdinand Morse. No definitive documentation yet, but this is my current research project. Thanks for your help, JB ----- Original Message ----- > Date: Fri, 3 Jul 2009 14:20:00 -0500 > From: Sheila Kapella <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Please help me find the link from > Castlegarden to Prussia > To: [email protected] > Message-ID: > <[email protected]> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 > > JB: If the church is still operating they will have the records; if not, > most denominations have an archive; why would they have attended a Swedish > church - unless, of course, it was the nearest one of their denomination? > Did I find Anna's maiden name to be "Yadea(u)? 3. Hi Kathy, thanks for the plat book tip. I will see if I can locate one for the time period. They settled as Ferdinand and Anna Morse in Henderson County IL. Other than the Castlegarden record indicating their arrival in New York on 02 Dec 1881, the earliest record I have found is the 1900 census record for Gladstone Villiage. They lived in Henderson County their entire lives. Anna died in 1929 and I suspect Ferdinand died in 1930. I have ordered copies of their death certificates as one of the listers has suggested. 2. Hi Robyn, I wish you much success when German learning ;-) It is right: All informations of this site are in German and the english speakers of this mailing list can´t understand the explanations. But I think the following is also helpful for english speakers: After entering the name of a village you get a list of suggestions, which village you could mean. The names of the suggested villages are in blue. When you decide for one village, the next site shows you on the right side a little map. Under this map you find 4 links: Google Earth, Google Maps, Map Quest and MultiMap. I select always Google Maps. When you click on "Google Maps" you can see, where the village is. You can zoom very near, you can see, which towns and villages are in the neighbourhood. That is possible also for the historical name of your village.
