    1. [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Help with headstone translation
    2. Megan Kube
    3. Hi Everyone, I have come across a phrase on a headstone which reads (in German) "Die Traurich Hinterbliebenen". As far as I've been able to work out, this translates to "The Traurich Survivors". Does anyone know what this would refer to? Thanks in advance, Megan (Australia)

    3. Traurich = sad. Bleiben = to stay. Hinter = behind so I'm guessing "The sad ones left behind" or "the sorrowing left behind." 3. Hi everyone I am trying to locate the parents of Edward GOODCHILD born about 1827 in Prussia but described as a British Subject. Does any one know if records possibly exist in Germany that might shed some light on this and, if so, where and how they might be consulted? Many thanks Peter Powell

    3. I found an Immigrant Society out of Burbank, CA that has some researchers in Germany. I'm going to check with them first. I don't work due to illness and live with my parents who, if it does not cost an arm and a leg, will sometimes foot the bill for my genealogy searches. Hopefully, with an attempt, I'll try to go back to work this winter/spring. I'll then I'll be able to get the Church to search if the Immigrant Society doesn't work out. I believe that currenly 1 Euro is worth about $1.50.? But at 30 Euros, it might pay to hire a researcher; it might be they can really get that cost down, and do more looking for you with better results for same money. > > > > Anettka > > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Hi Anne, Have following in records. By the way, where are you. KUHLOW Alwin Gustav Henry born 28 May 1914; (nee Kommritz) Margarete Charlotte born 19 August 1914; Hannelore born 28 September 1940 - German - travelled per ship SKAUBRYN departing in 1958 KUHLOW Dieter born 14 November 1933; Sigrid born 27 July 1936; Petra born 20 April 1956; Andreas born 11 January 1958; Sabine born 08 March 1959 - Nationality German - arrived per ship T/S "FLAVIA" departed Ex BREMERHAVEN/GERMANY 10 July 1967. ( This record is not yet examined) Alwin Gustav Henri Kuhlow [German - Arrived Melbourne per SKAUBRYN 22 January 1958] Hannelore Kuhlow [German - Arrived Melbourne per SKAUBRYN 22 January 1958] Margarete Charlotte Kuhlow [German - Arrived Melbourne per SKAUBRYN 22 January 1958] The other four records are open and you may apply for a digital copy- which takes time usually a month. You can open record 2 this takes time and then you have to apply at a later date once records are open. No records per Yungnickel The site is NAA.gov.au and is fiddly. Go to recordsearch on topRHS You log on as a guest And then try anything that comes to mind. Don't be confused by the numbers The search engine is really good. 2. reply from a church in regards to my inquiry and they charge 30.00 Euros, $90.00 usd. *************************** Morgan, While the dollar has lost some of its value relative to the Euro, it is not that bad.? I believe that currenly 1 Euro is worth about $1.50.? But at 30 Euros, it might pay to hire a researcher; it might be they can really get that cost down, and do more looking for you with better results for same money. Anettka

    1. [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Queries for the area of Regenwald @ Betsy
    2. Yvonne
    3. Hi Betsy, I googled and came accross this query board. Dünow is in there as well. http://www.geocities.com/regenwalde/queries.htm There is also a German speaking yahoo group for all of Germany and beyond, including emmigration and fomrer German countries. I would sign up with them and go right ahead and put your queries in English. Most Germans speak English anayway and some will help with translation if there is a problem. The website is http://famint.de Once you are a member (it's totally free of course) you can upload documents, links, photos etc. In case you get documents from Germany or another neighoring country you can upload them and somebody else can translate it for you Perhaps you finally will find your connection. 3. Thank you so much for your helpful suggestions. I have been playing at genealogy for many years now. I have research many of the more common places and have also used many of the websites listed on Cyndi's List. I have gathered all I can and now must try other paths. It was my hope with my queryto reach others that might would be researching the same names or villages or have information on the same. The name Dünow is not so common, but every descendant of the name knows we come from the same small area of Germany. Yet we are unable to find a common link. I recently learned of the Dünow village or farm in Cammin. Of course I wonder if that is the key. Sadly, I have yet to find any information on it via the internet. Another question I have is: Can anyone tell me how to research land ownership in Regenwald at the turn of the last century? Thank you for your input. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Karl Roussin Sent: Friday, August 21, 2009 9:31 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Dünow of Zozenow, Regenwald and Dünow, Cammin, Baarz of Barckow,Greifenberg Betty I am sure that You know the full names , and dates of vital events ; so for a starter , check out the FHL site at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp or http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ Karl Roussin ============================================= ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty Duenow" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 20, 2009 9:01 PM Subject: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Dünow of Zozenow, Regenwald and Dünow, Cammin, Baarz of Barckow,Greifenberg I am researching the Dünow family of Prussia.
