Ok. I'm a little baffled. My great grandfather John T Harvey was born in Baltimore, MD around 1859. I know his mother's name is Caroline...she was Prussian by birth. It's all the info I have. I don't have any other information following. Any help would be great. Shannan M Hinners
Try and find John Harvey's marriage license. Most licenses require the names of the parents. good luck. -----Original Message----- From: prussia-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:prussia-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Hinners, Shannan M Civ 573 ACSS/GFLDC Sent: Wednesday, January 17, 2007 12:27 PM To: prussia-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Surname: Harvey Ok. 1. Look up the 1860 and 1870 censuses for the Baltimore, MD, area. 2. Go to RootsWeb mailing lists for MD, and look for Baltimore. Join list. 3. While at RootsWe3b, look in 'Surnames' lists for HARVEY. That should get you started. Bye, Stan B. --- "Hinners, Shannan M Civ 573 ACSS/GFLDC" <Shannan.Hinners@robins.af.mil> wrote: > Ok. Hi Lists: Once again, I am trying to locate my aliens. Peter Keissel b. 1808 in Germany d.? USA. Peter married Catherine Clovak (sp?) in the 1830s. Catherine b. 1808 in Germany d. ? USA. They had 3 known children: Catherine b. 1838 in Germany; Magdlena b. 1843 in Louisiana, USA and Jacob b. 1847 in Mississippi, USA. I was able to find them under the surname Kleissel in the 1850 Census. But from 1850 to 1863 when Magdlena married Alexander Henry Johnston, I cannot find the KEISSEL family anywhere. I also cannot find Catherine (the daughter) anyway besides 1850 Census. I was able to find Jacob in 1880 Census, but not 1860 or 1870. Any help whatsoever you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Tami Johnston New Orleans, Louisiana, USA ____________________________________________________________________________________ TV dinner still cooling? Check out "Tonight's Picks" on Yahoo! Hi. Thank you for the website. Carol
Hello Carol Which relatives are you looking for - alive or deceased? If you are looking for live relatives to write to, you might try www.telefonbuch.de The German online telephone book gives names and addresses. If you find any surnames you are looking for, write them a letter asking if they know any of their ancestors. All of the younger German people speak English. English is required in German schools. Good luck ----- Original Message ----- From: <CARNIKIS@aol.com> To: <prussia-roots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2007 10:07 AM Subject: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Family in Germany > Hi all, > > Does anyone know how I would go about finding relatives in Germany? Thank you for creating this site. I think it will be very useful; however, there seems to be a portion (sections) of the overall Polish map missing from the newly created site. Specifically, the sections indexed & numbered 2866 (Schneidemuhl), 2880 & 2977 but there may be some others as well. Many thanks for looking into this matter. Hi all, Does anyone know how I would go about finding relatives in Germany? Any help will be appreciated. Carol
Carol You have asked a question , that every one has had , at one time or another. However once You have the full names and critical dates of the persons. Check out http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp or http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ or http://www.surnamenavigator.org/ just fill out the blanks and click " search ", or " go ". There are a lot of records in those links. I created this site so we could store the good links coming through this Prussian-roots group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PrussianRoots/
These maps, or something very similar and at the same scale are now out of copyright. If you can find a good map library, they may have these and you can ask them to copy them for you [at a price, of course]. I did this and now have five maps which I can use at home, copying those parts which I am most interested in. PS: For those on the Pommern list who did not see the original message about maps, the set under discussion are on: http://www.mapy.eksploracja.pl/viewpage.php?page_id=26 Regards David A Lord [now in Scotland] -- No virus found in this outgoing message. > Is Prussia in Poland now and once was in Germany? Or is it still in > Germany? The existence of Prussia as a state of its own inside the German Reich ended in 1945. The very western parts used to belong to West Germany, the central part to Eastern Germany, both now Germany, the eastern including Pomerania, West- and East-Prussia belongs to Poland nowadays. The word Prussia is a term no more used in Germany except for historical reasons. Chris
