    3. Could someone please help be by doing a lookup on Germans to America. My Ancestor is Simon Jacob Navo and Wife Theresa Flick. We know they were in New Orleans before 1850 as the first Son (John)was born in 1850. Theresa Flick says she was born in Baden. They settled and raised a family in New Orleans, La. There is a John Navo that settled in St. Louis, Mo. The ages of Simon and John is 2 yrs apart. I always thought they might be brothers- as they both said on the census they were born in Prussia. Navo is not a usual German name. Any help is appreciated. Family Legend says they came into America Thru New Orleans. This has not been confirmed. 3. Josie, I don't know if it's any help but I have a Tilgner in my family tree - Charlotte Tilgner, born 21 Jan 1880 in Breslau, Silesia, Germany. She is the second wife of my great grandfather, who was a Lutheran minister. She is not related to me so I don't have much further information about her and her family. In fact, if you search on FamilySearch.org, the LDS site, for Tilgner in Germany, the vast majority seem to come from Silesia (now part of Poland). Best of luck to you! 1. Re: [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] TILGNER from Preussen
    2. Hello Josie, The Kaltevorwek place you are looking for is probably spelled with a "vorwerk" at the end, as Kaltevorwerk. This vorwerk indicated a farm or residence outside the castle walls, etc. Other spellings are probably Kaltvorwerk, Kaltenvorwerk or even Kaltes Vorwerk. Around 1871, there were several places called Kaltvorwerk and they all seem to have been in the province of Silesia, Prussia. If you have no other information, you may still have to do more local research on TILGNER in order to determine from which area of Silesia he originated. There were three Regierungsbezirk (main districts) in Silesia (Breslau, Liegnitz and Oppeln.) The Kaltvorwerk places were located in each of them. In fact, they were very small locations and most likely connected to a nearby town -- instead of officially being on their own. If you can learn more about which "Kaltevorwek" would be the right one, you could then proceed to looking for records of this family. For what it's worth, there was a Kaltvorwerk located just north of Fraustadt and one just north of Ohlau, Silesia. Respectively, they are now Hetmanice and Zimnica, Poland. Other Kaltvorwerk locations should also be considered until a definite place of origin can be determined. Karen B. 2. Yes, this sounds like my Charles. Thank you so much for the look up. Mary's real name was Maria Elisabeth (I think) but she went by Mary on every record I can find. No one knows for sure what her maiden name was. There are several that it could be: NIKLES, NIKEL, NIKELS, NICLOES. So she may have used her maiden name. Thank you so much for your help. ~Dee~ ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Alice, I wish I could help you with your genealogy -- but your user name caught my eye. I grew up in an oil camp at the intersection of FMs 666 & 667, between Alice and Driscoll. Did you know a woman named Myrtle (don't know her maiden name) who married Chaney Custer? I went to school w/his youngest brother, George. At any rate, Myrtle Custer lives two doors down from me. Small world. Jane Brown, Born Kingsville, educated Driscoll/Bishop, taught Banquete, now happily relocated in Fredericksburg.
