Nina, how do you pronounce DUX? My brick wall is DEAO, from Germany, and family lore has it that it used to have an "X" on it somewhere. We say DEE'O; some say DAY'O. Thanks - and good luck to you. Kathleen Deao

Hi Monica, here is the link for the Posen Project. Yvonne http://bindweed.man.poznan.pl/posen/search.php
I am new to the list, and am searching for my ROSENTHAL family in Poland. My great-great-grandfather, Ignacy ROSENTHAL <1839> came the the U.S. in 1881, along with his wife, Katrzyna (Panglisz ?or? Radzicki) and their children Joseph <1863>, Anton <1867>, Maryana <1873>, Katrzyna <1878>, and the twins, Adam and Ignacy <1880> It is said that their daughter, Stanislawa "Stella" was born on the ship coming to America. The boat manifest showed a Stanislaw that was age 9. I am wondering if that should have been Stanislawa, and only 9 days old, as once they got to the U.S., there is no record of a Stanislaw. None of the Catholic parishes that they belonged to in Nebraska or Wisconsin show any death record for a Stanislaw Rosenthal. The ship manifest only states that they came from Prussia, but a cousin, says that her father (Joseph <1863>) always said he came from Poznan, but there is a chance that they may have come from Pommerania. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Monica Rosenthal Zendejas [email protected]
Welcome Monica, I did a quick search in the www.familysearch.org for Ignacy Rosenthal and it came up with the following. Ignatz or Nick Rosenthal, birth 1834 Posen, Preussen, death August 1907? Wife Katherine or Katie Peglisz, birth 1844,,,Poland, death 1909? Children: Birth: Death 1.Joseph 14 Feb 1863, Posen Sep 1945? 2.Anton 11 Aug 1867 Posen 22 Mar 1929 3.Maryanne May 1873 Germany 4. Adam 18 Aug 1877 Germany 1942 5. Katherine or Katie Jun 1878 Preussen 16 Feb 1957 You might be able to find their marriage at the Posen Project. I found my Prussian relatives listed in a German databank (through a museum) for ship passengers. But I was unable to complete the transaction as the payment screen part did not let me enter the info fully. Has anyone dealt or know anything about this museum and the passenger records? I'd love to be able to order the records as finding info on this family has been extremely difficult. The databank is located at: Deutsche Auswanderer-Datenbank c/o Historisches Museum Bremerhaven An der Geeste D-27570 Bremerhaven Here is their link: http://www.dad-recherche.de Are they even legit, as my dad does not want to do the transaction online? He is glad it did not go through. Is it possible to order through the mail? Morgan Cole EMAILING FOR THE GREATER GOOD Join me

Doris, Do you know where 'your' Henry worshipped and births, deaths and marriages of extended family were recorded. If you can search the original Church books often birth locations back in Prussia are given which are not recorded on certificates. Meanwhile this database http://bindweed.man.poznan.pl/posen/search.php does not show any surnames spelt Tigges, but some soundalikes that may be worth looking at? Good luck, Bronwyn. Thank you so much for checking. I do have both these references. There was a large group of the Tigges name in Iowa and nearby, but they seem not to be related to my Henry. A William Tigges (older than Henry who came alone to America) is also found in New Jersey, but I have found nothing more about him. It is possible he is related. My main difficulty is trying to find his village in Prussia. I have had people suggest places as widely separated as Lienen in Westphalen, Nuremberg and Leipzig. Not being able to read German has been a serious deterrent to finding records. In all the censuses, his place of origin is listed only as Prussia.
