    3. Hi: I am looking to breakdown a brickwall of years now. Peter Keizel/Keezel b. 1808 in Germany married Catherine ?? . They married before 1838. They had 3 children: Catherine b. 1838 in Germany Magdlena b. 1843 in Louisiana, USA Jacob b. 1847 in Mississippi, USA I would love to find out when and where they entered America at. I was able to locate them in the 1850 Harrison County Mississippi Census under the surname "Kleissel". Then I have not been able to locate them in any other census. In 1863, I found Magdlena marrying Alexander Henry Johnston (A.H. Johnston) in New Orleans, LA. I found Jacob Kiezel living with the "White" family in the 1880 census. Then dying in New Orleans in 1896. The remaining years for this family has been a mystery. I am wondering if anyone else is researching this family or can assist me with recommendations on researching this family. Thanks! 3. Lorraine, Yes, these indirect sailings were less expensive than direct voyages. One would catch a train (possibly from London) across England to a port such as Plymouth. Some of the earlier trips to the German port would be by barge along a river until train travel became available and cost effective. 3. There were not many census taken in Prussia,. I would guess that you will not find one that suits your time & place. Addressbooks are your best bet generally or Church records. You can find a lot of addressbooks here: http://www.many-roads.com/libraries/prussia-histories/adressbucher/ As for church records you might want to check http://familysearch.org For more links on info to the former German East you might look at the links on this page:http://www.many-roads.com/link-directory/ (Select Expand: if you want to see all the Links or simply click on a header to see those Grouped under the header topic.) 3. Hullo Timmy Thanks for that - I do know that Anna Catherina's stated place of birth was Bremerhaven (Lutheran Archives of South Australia)- she was born 1827 Cord Friedrich and Mary's place of origin on shipping records was Bremen - they travelled here in 1854 so they would have been included in the Census I have looked at the 1852 Hanover Census and it shows one GREVE in Amt Achim which takes in Bremen; Amt Hoya GREVE 2, 3 and THIEDE one; and in Stadt Bodenwerder one GREVE I would hazard a guess that Amt Hoya would be the area - again takes in Bremen. Is there a possibility of this census being looked up? I tried to look at the parish registers on the Census site but was not able to GREVE is noted spelled in ancient times - Middle-Low German as GRAEVE, middle German as GRAEBE, GREBE.
