(Mary Elizabeth) Carnell/Pruitt second cousin to previous wife Betty Carnell/Pruitt. From note in S.L.'s Bible sent to me by Ailene Hastings July 1997: Aged Citizen Taken By Death S.L Pruitt known by friends and neighbors as "Pa Kirgie" died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oliver Fields on Tuesday of last week after an illness of 6 weeks. The funeral was held at Behtlehem Church on Wednesday afternoon Dec. 27, 1939, conducted by Rev. Walter Joyner with burial at the church cemetery. Grandsons were active pallbearers: Otis and Vernard Hastings, Curtis Turner, Rex Pruitt, Clifford Forrest and Bolis Hill. Mr. Pruitt whose full name was Solomon Likirgis was born in the state of Kentucky Nov. 16, 1853, died Dec. 26th at the age of 86. When still a young man, he moved to Carroll Co. Tn. and was married to Elizabeth Carnel, to this union six children were born , three survive. Mrs. Ella Ingle of Crowell Texas, Mrs. Ida Turner of Detroit Michigan and Mrs. Rita Hastings of the home community near Cannon School. After the death of his first wife, he was married to Mary E. Carnel who survives and has so devotedly cared for him in his declining years. To this union twelve children were born, seven survive: Mrs. Ruthie Turner of Detroit Michigan, Mrs Eula Hicks, Mrs. Beatrice Hendley, Mrs. Oliver Fields, Roy and Sherman Pruitt of the home community. Three sisters, Mrs. Mollie Linn of Bardwell KY, Mrs. Kate Sellers of Crowell, Texas and Mrs. Sis True of Lindful, KY. There are also 31 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson to morn his passing, Solomon was not on the TN census till 1880 and must have married sometime late 1880 or early 1881 according to the date of his firstborn's birth. The 1890 census was destroyrd by fire and he and 2nd wife and a mixture of children from both families show up in the 1900 census. In the 1880 censu, he is living in the home of S. R. Birdwell as a laborer.
