    1. [PRUITT-L] John B. PRUITT of Grayson Co., KY
    2. Dear PRUITT researchers, Here is yet another yearly post from me concerning my PRUITT ancestry. I am trying to establish the parentage of John B. PRUITT/PREWITT (bc 1818, dc 1870). John B. first appears in the 1840 Grayson Co., KY census, listed as age 22 and single. In the 1850 census, the listing shows that in the intervening 10 years, he has married Nancy and has had 3 children. The census shows that his 3rd child and firstborn son, William R., was born within six months of the taking of the census data (about January, 1850). In the 1860 Grayson Co. census, he has had more children, and has a visitor living with him, William R., aged one year younger than John B. William R. was possibly a brother--note that John named his first son "Wm. R." Also, family tradition says John's children had an "Uncle Billy". It is family tradition that John's wife was Nancy THOMAS (bc 1824, dc 1910), daughter of Burgess THOMAS (bc 1803) and Rebecca SKAGGS, residents of Millerstown, Grayson Co., KY. Burgess' father, Enos THOMAS, Sr. (bc 1756), was said to have a steam mill and farm on Rock Creek, Grayson Co., KY. Enos' home was also used as the Methodist Meeting House for the area. Burgess' wife, Rebecca (bc 1798) was said to be the daughter of Henry SKAGGS, Rev. War vet, and Nancy (possibly a DAVIS). I have a property deed for the land that contained the PRUITT homestead. John purchased the land from one Asher BODINE. It is possible that the BODINE's had a family connection to John B. PRUITT. If anyone has information on any of the above PRUITT, THOMAS, SKAGGS, or BODINE families, I sure would love to hear from you. Please help!
