The four children, Philip, Martha (Patsy), Tilmon and Zachariah, are children of Nancy and Joseph NOT Mary and Joseph. I suspect that whoever submitted this information got confused by the fact that Joseph's brother Samuel Pruitt, Jr. was appointed by the court as guardian of the children when in fact the children were living with Charles and Nancy Toney who was their mother. Things were different then and, even when the mother was married, as in this case, a male guardian (usually an uncle) was appointed to look after the welfare of the children and protect their inheritance.
