I didn't know whether you were referring to me or someone else. You asked about sending all the information on my Joseph Pruitt. My Joseph Pruitt who was also called "Japheth Pruitt" was born in Pittsylvania Co., VA, in 1769. He first married Mary Elliott in Pittsylvania Co. on March 24, 1790. I believe Mary died sometime around or shortly after 1790, and he married Nancy ?? around 1796. There were four children born to that marriage: Phillip Pruitt, Martha "Patsy" Pruitt, Tillman Dixon Pruitt, and Zachariah Pruitt. Phillip was born ca. 1797, hence the guess of the marriage date to Nancy. Joseph moved to Franklin Co., GA, near where brothers Phillip, Samuel and Benjamin lived. On 28 Jan. 1804, Joseph bought 158 A in Franklin Co. on the south side of the Hudson River. (Samuel had land just to the south on the Grove River.) Joseph died on 12 Feb. 1805. His estate was inventoried and recorded on 29 Mar. 1805. On 16 Oct. 1805, Nancy Toney, formerly widow of Jeptha (another spelling of his name), now wife of Charles Toney petitions for dower in Franklin Co., GA. Samuel was appointed guardian of Phillip, Patsy, Tilman and Zachariah on 4 May 1807. The children are living with Charles Toney and their mother Nancy, but Samuel, their uncle, is appointed guardian. Interesting and quite unlike what would happen today. Patsy married Bedford Roland in Franklin Co. in 1816. On 28 Nov. 1816 Bedford applies on behalf of his wife Patsy Prewitt "one of the Legatees of the said dec'd (Japheth Prewitt)...her legacy of the Principal of the principal estate of the deceased." The couple subsequently move to Kentucky. Martha's death was on 23 July 1853 and on her death record it states that her parents were Japheth and Ann Pruitt. (This still has me puzzled as her mother was surely Nancy, but could it have been Nancy Ann. Death records, however, are notoriously inaccurate as I have a number that have verifiable errors on them. So her mother could have been called Ann, had a middle name of Ann, or the person giving the information just was in error.) It is obvious that my Joseph never was in Oglethorpe County in 1850 nor moved on into Alabama between 1855 and 1860. However, Samuel Pruitt, Jr. did have a son Joseph who left Franklin Co. before 1840 and moved to Pontotoc Co., MS. Good luck on your Joseph Pruitt. Roger Pruitt
