    3. Roger, I'll let you know what I find out. Deb ----- Original Message ----- From: Roger A. He is listed as living in the "Cherokee Intruders" Limestone Settlement in 1809. The 1830 census lists him as living in Cherokee, GA. He married Kezia Stokes (Connelly), widow of Charles Connelly of NC. Children were: Hezekiah, Lucy, Samuel III, Elizabeth, Joseph, Polly, and John Willis. Samuel died in 1845 in Franklin County, GA. The land on which he lived later became part of Banks County, GA when Banks County was formed. Does anyone know where the Limestone Settlement was located? Those people living in the settlement were required to have official permission from and be registered with the U.S. government's Cherokee agent. > > > Deb Kroll > > > > By most accounts, Samuel Pruitt, Jr., the son of Samuel Pruitt II, was born in Halifax Co., VA, on 10 Sep. 1762. In 1798, he moved to Franklin Co., GA. > > Deb, you reported that you were "looking > into Limestone Settlement being near Gainesville, GA in the Limestone > Springs area there. I suspect that Cherokee Intruders refers to all who came into NE Georgia as that was Cherokee land. I don't know about the Limestone Settlement, but I feel certain that Samuel Pruitt, Jr. settled on the Grove River. From my notes taken on my 1980 trip to Georgia, I copied from the 1802 Franklin Co., Tax Digest #848 Samuel Prewet 100A on Grove River. Eventually he had a large plantation there. It is reported that he gave each of his children 500 acres upon the date of their marriage. Of course, Samuel didn't acquire all of that land at once and the Tax Digest record indicates a modest beginning. Sons Hezekiah and Robert Walters Pruitt had sizable land holdings in the area.
