Pruitt -Prewit is my mothers family. Have found it spelled many ways including Privitt-Privett, which is my married name. I have wondered if this is another variation of spelling Pruitt over the years. Has any one else found proof it they are the same family?? Spelling was so bad back then that persons didn't know how their name was spelled on many occasions, thus the different spelling. Am interested to know if this is the same family or different and spellings were spelled wrong in some instances. Marie
My mother-in-law's Pruitt line I am researching was spelled Prewitt in the mid-1800s, then Prueitt, Pruett and now Pruitt.
