I don't believe you will make connections with some of the 160 varieties you found. All of those do not belong to the family of Pruitt or however you want to spell it. Most of the spellings will be Pruitt, Pruit, Pruett, Pruet, Prewitt, Prewett. In the beginning there were not that many--only the Prewitt or Prewett-depending on the speller.

It depends a lot on how the Census Taker wrote it down when they were taking the Census. My particular line of Pruett"s has been spelled almost every way that you have put in your subject line.
