In responce to the variations of spelling names, it shoud be remembered that prior to last 20 years that census takers cam to your house and took the info and that 100 year ago few people could read or write. It was then left up to the taker to spell your name however it looked or sounded to him, hence all the variations. I have the same situation in the spelling of my name within my family ancestory.
