    3. I thought the same thing -- must be French Protestant, particularly with a marriage to a DuCray, but it's not the case. It appears that the common ancestor was Thomas Prewitt from Salisbury, England. I checked records from Wiltshire and found Prewitt, Prewit, Pruit, Pruitt, Pruet, Pruett and Prowet all the way back to the 1200s.
