My Pruitt's are from Va. also. William Pruitt Sr. b. 1714 and married Mary Martin about 1747. He lived on the N. side of the Yadkin River. in what is now Davidson Co., N.C., It is known he may of also lived in Washington Co., VA. from the marriage place of a daughter. Some Pruitts were in Henrico Co., Va. early. Origin of Pruitt name seems to mostly come from England. Greetings Rhonda. Family stories persist that our direct Pruitt line first lived in Colonial Virginia ( don't know where they came from or when ) but first documented in Kentucky, then in Texas, then in Oklahoma, then without father Henry Pruitt in Arkansas. I have school pictures of the children in Oklahoma. If your research from Virginia takes you to any of the states I mentioned, let me know and I will dig out mom's book and provide the names and dates for you. Good Morning! I'm looking for information on the Pruitt family of Virginia...specifically from the Danville area. My great-grandparents were John E. Two useful web sites. The second came to me from another list but I've checked it and it works. The first is a national manuscript collection site with a search engine. Search for your surname; you might be surprised. It's at: http://lcweb.loc.gov/coll/nucmc/nucmc.html Then, If you have an ancestor that you suspect might have been in the War of 1812, chances are you'll find him on this database. http://www.sierrahome.com/familytree/records As I understand it, this database is only going to be available for free for the next two days.
Jacob Preut died in Walker Co. Alabama 14 May 1845, and is buried in New Prospect Church Cem, near Haleyville, Alabama. He lived prior in Greene Co. TN. He married Nancy Richey in Green Co. Tenn. 12 Mar. 1786. Jacob's father, William Pruit Sr. died in Madison Co. Al. 1817. His Will was probated Oct. 1817. His wife had died before the Will. Jacob moved from (1818) Madison Co. after his father died to Lawrence Co.Al. Jacob owned land in Lawrence Co. (They both moved in 1807, from Knox Co. Tenn to Madison Co. Alabama) Searching in Tenn. ....the county and State lines changed while they lived in Tenn. Where they lived in Tenn.was once Mississippi even. County lines changed as the state split and made new counties. They didn't move, the County changed lines. It is said William SR was the of the first settlers in Tenn. Perhaps you could find info on those county changes in a Red Book. Here's an excellent site concerning deciphering old handwriting -- something we've all struggled with! http://www.firstct.com/fv/oldhand.html Susan
I just found my long sought over Pruitt line on the following page. I had documented from myself back to my greatgrandfather and knew his father was Thomas and his mother was Mary. I also found the will from when his mother Mary died in 1871 in St. Clair Co, Mo. According to what I've found Thomas b.1803 TO William & Mary PRUETT in NC. William b.1762 to Thomas & Sarah in Virginia. Thomas b.1711 to Thomas & Mary in Henrico Co.,VA. Thomas b.1692 to Henry & Mary PRUETT. Henry b.1654 to Thomas in York Co.,VA. Thomas b. 1616 in Salisbury, Wiltshire,England. Why I'm writing is because there were no sources listed and I personally found a point I question. I e-mailed the first site for info but recieved no reply this last week. I entered Thomas Pruitt b.1711 with a 10 range of dates at the family search and got the same listing with different but close dates. I hope I haven't lost anyone trying to list these Pruitt's! If any of these belong to any of you and you know this info has been proven, I'd love to hear from you! Please e-mail me directly at: Cherlynn Bell <brichbell@netscape.net> Thank you! Cherlynn Please note the first site wrapped! http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/p/r/u/Julie-K-Pruett/index.html http://www.familysearch.org/ ........................................................ iWon.com http://www.iwon.com why wouldn't you? ........................................................

Marci, Thanks for your reply. Roxie Anna has been very hard to track down. I'm pretty sure that James Allen Moon was married to Roxie Anna Pruett. Believe her father's name was Carson Pruett/Pruet/Pruitt. But I have no further information on Roxie Anna or her father.
