Larry, I have heard of Byrd Pruitt, but can't think in what context right now. I noticed that one of the Pruitts in Henrico married an Ann Field. One of John Pruitts sons was Meredith Field Pruitt. I wondered where the Field name came from and have found several references to them in Henrico, Co. Also found that a Thomas Pruitt was the first Pruitt living in Goochland after it was taken from Henrico, Co. Many of my Pruitt clan migrated to Marion Co., IL, along with my See relatives. Jeannine

Hi all, Been many months since I posted but with so many going strong thought I would throw this out. I have been looking for the parents/brothers/sisters to my grandfather for 30 years. Hope some one can break by brick wall. What we know: Rolland Fitzroy Pruitt was born Feb, 1884 in Tenn (we think) His mother was Lydia Hufft/Huff/Hough born in Va. Rolland Fitzroy Pruitt was in Jewell COunty, Kansas in 1913 when he married Felda May Brock. A son was born October 1913, then twin daughters 1917 at Jewell COunty, Kansas and another daughter 1919 in Kansas City. During the depression he moved his family to Lebanon, Missouri and lived there until his death Dec 2, 1947. He is buried at the Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Missouri. We need his father and help on mother and any brothers/ sister. If anyone has any information on a PRUITT married to a HUFFT/HUFF/HOUGH please let me hear from you. Any ideas were I can look? Diane

May 1778 Obadiah Prewitt entered the Virginia militia from Goochland Co. under Capt. Miller (R8458) Another Obadiah Pruett was born to John Pruett Jr. and Elizabeth Roberts in 1774. 1788, March 11, Obadiah Pruit and wife Frances sold 74 1/2 acres to Samuel Couch. Witness: Tho. L. Bates and Abraham Pruit ( Goochland Bk 15, p. 37) Obadiah Addison Pruett moved to North Carolina 1791 Obadiah A. Pruett returned to Goochland Co. from N.C. --Alice (widow), Harrod, Obadiah and Abram Pruett were in Rowan Co. N.C. in 1800. Many records including wills are in Richard A. I don't know how many have received this e-mail before, so will send it again. There is an island in Chesapeake Bay, I believe it is Smith Island, that has lots of blue-eyed, blonde Pruetts. They have been there a long, long time. The island is pretty well cut off from the mainland, only access is via boat, so the language is still faintly olde English. Pauline

Is anyone researching the following family? My 2nd Great Grandmother was Malinda Prewitt/Pruitt. She was born ca 1845 KY. She married George Rice Hyden, I have no idea when or where yet. Prior to her marriage I located her on the 1850 Whitley Co, KY census age 5, with her father John Prewitt b ca 1804. Also in the household were her sisters, Mary 12, Jemima 8 and Julia 3 (not sure of this name). Included also was Jemima age 75 born VA, who was John's mother. By 1860 Malinda is age 14, living with James Maine and family, her sister Jemima is age 16 and in the household of John Lawson and family, both in So. America Twsp. Whitley Co, KY. Does anyone know the maiden name of John's mother or the name of his wife? Where was his wife at the time the 1850 census was taken? Where was he by 1860 and why were the children found in other households by 1860? Were the Lawson and Maine families connected to this line of Prewitts? Thanks, Radine

I'll check with my dad to find out if remebers the names of any of his grandfathers brothers. He doesn't seem to remember as much about his dad's side of the family as his mother's (Martin's). The mother of John E. You will find other information in the Richard A. Prewitt Book on Asa'a father and borthers. Also many other Pruitt's in Pittslvania who might prove out to be related someway. I think it must be him as John E is the only John E in the 1880 census in the county. I have more info on the older brother Asa and his family born in the same county. Asa moved to Ohio later.
