I agree with Don that the approach is impersonal and therefore smells of scam. If nothing else, it is an advertisement for AOL. I can assure you; however, that the people who received this message did not receive it because they are subscribers to this list. Your names and e-mail addresses are kept strictly confidential per Rootsweb policy. It would be best if we did not discuss the issue any further on this list. I know nothing about them, but the impersonality of the approach left me with a bad karma, therefore disinterested in initiating further contact. I hope I am wrong. Jim: I think I got it and just deleted it - wondering how they had gotten my name -It wouldn't have been possible they could get the entire Pruitt web list - ??? I just didn't feel like it was something I wanted to mess with but maybe someone should check them out and see if it's for real. My understanding is that many/most folks in early America were illiterate. They would go to the courthouse to have their land records documented, record a marriage bond, record a will. They could say their name, but the court recorder spelled them as well as he could sound out the name. That is why I have been able to track some of my Virginia ancestors through 3 different spellings: Pruitt, Pruett, Prewitt. All the same family, just recorded by the court recorded of the day. I used to get upset that my Pruitts were only spelled "Pruitt," but certainly found out that looking at spelling would have ended my Pruitts many generations too soon. Cindy Pruitt Spencer
Does anyone know where the name "Pruitt" in all it's various spellings originated and where did the various spellings come from? Kimberly Fawn Lehi, UT Researching Mariah Pruett born born abt 1845 Missouri, married Stanford Elledge.
