Would like to receive copy of history of Pruett family name. Have traced my line of Pruetts to Georgia. They came on over to Alabama sometime between 1855 and 1860. One of my mother's cousins said they started out in Draper Valley, Virginia and worked their way down the coast and then west. Thanks for any info. Pauline [email protected]

Hi all I just got some photo copies of cemetery cards from the Oswego KS Cemetery. The neat people at their historical society sent them in answer to a query about my Branson line. One of the ladies who knew my uncle Harold Pruitt also sent a copy of a card for a Major Pruitt. He is buried in Masonic corner of the cemetery all by himself. Does he belong to anyone? Nora

Hi Pruitt researchers, My focus of interest is Elizabeth Pruitt, b. 1821 in Madison Co., IL, daughter of Solomon Pruitt(1790 VA-1875 IL)and Rebecca Higgins. Elizabeth married Thomas R. Jones in 1837,in Madison Co., IL and had 6 children before disappearing from local records by 1850. When/where did she die? What happened to Thomas R. Jones after 1850? This Pruitt line can be traced back to Wm. Pruitt Sr. and wife Mary Martin in VA, early 1700's. Others ended up in AL, TN, and NC. Thanks for any help! Dorothy Wilson in Mtn. View, CA
Irene [email protected] please e-mail me again, i am having trouble getting the Pruitt info you requested to you James Duddy [email protected]
>I have been trying to figure out for years when my 2nd great grandfather >changed the spelling of his name three times during his life. These are >not random misspellings, but deliberate changes. I had an example of this when I started research on my husband's family (Wagoner). In two generations I found it spelled Waggoner, Wagoner, and Wagner. (They were definately the same family). A 92 year old aunt told me "some of those durn boys just got too lazy to spell it right (which covered the version with dropped g). When I asked her about the Wagner, she told me "them others didn't like each other so they thought by spelling their name different, people wouldn't know they wuz related". I decided that if she made it to her age and was as sharp as she was, I wasn't going to doubt her. (Grin) (It's just one idea on name spellings, I guess). Alicia Brown
