    1. Does anyone have any information about Pleasant Pruitt?
    2. Here is some information one of my relatives has uncovered. I would like to know more about the Pruitt family in TN. >According to the 1860 & 1850 Census Pleasant was born in TN. I believe on >the 1850 Census it states that his father was also born in TN >1.) Pleasant, Elizabeth, Alex A~~ (could not read on the census), and a >Martha Buoy are on the 1860 AR, Scott County Census. Martha married Fred >Pollard - they helped raise Lewis (Louis Alexander Pruitt). I have Martha >Pollard's death >certificate to verify that she is the Martha Buoy on the 1860 Census. I am >leaning toward the idea that Elizabeth's maiden name was Buoy!!! The Census >does not state the relationship between Martha the head of the household. >2.) 1850 AL, Franklin County Census - there is a household of Pruitts that >I believe are the parents of Pleasant..... Head of the household is Josiah, >his wife is Jane (on the 1860 census mentioned in #1 there is a Jane >Pruitt, widow, living next door to Pleasant & Elizabeth.); the children >listed are: Pleasant (17 yr.); Joel (13); Mary Ann (15); Lewis C. (11); >Margaret (5). If anyone has any additional information I would appreciate it. Thank you.

    3. Does anyone know anything about Bob (Robert) PREWITT (or PRUITT, depending on which family obituary you believe) who married Hattie BUTLER? Hettie and Bob lived together for a long time, but on a trip out to Holtville, CA in the mid-1950's, they decided they would marry in Yuma, AZ on their way back to TN. Bob had diabetes. Bob and Hattie never had children. I'm trying to find out more about my great aunt Hattie Butler and some Pruitt family member may be able to help me. Karla Butler Everett Bakersfield, CA

    1. William Pruitt/WV
    2. Found information on my William Pruitt that is more specific: According to the 1880 Census for Lewis County Kentucky town of Qunicy Willim Pruitt b:@1840 in West Virginia he married Martha Johnson b:@1840 in West Virginia children were: Fannie, James, Sylva, Thomas They have not been foun before this date in Kentucky so may have come from Virginia between 1870 and 1880. Some possibility they came from Tennessee after leaving WV. Does anyone have a match? We can't find them after that date either except for Fannie who remained in KY marrying James Henderson in Greenup Co. KY. She is my line. Valerie Johnson

    3. Howdy from South Texas. I just subscribed to the Pruitt discussion group and what to introduce myself. Have bee interested in family research and have been stuck on my Prewitt/Pruitt family for a long time. Hopefully I'll find some cousins on this list. My grandmother was Mary Magdalene Prewitt b. 1884 in Texas. Her parents: William Martin Prewitt b. 1852 Tennesse/Elizabeth Ellen Jane Taylor b. 1859 Texas. Next generation back: William Prewitt b.1814 Tennessee/Hannah Caroline Collins b. 1820 NC. Now here is where I have no proofs: I THINK this Wm.'s parents may have been John Prewitt b. ca 1793 b. Tennessee/Elizabeth Tucker b. ca 1794 Tennessee (they were m. in Jefferson Co. TN 7 Sep 1812 and were in Monroe Co. TN 1830 and Bradley Co. TN 1840 & 1850. I also think John's father was William Prewitt b. 1762 VA and wife, Mary who d. 1835 and William d. Aug 1849 Meigs Co. TN. This William applied for South Carolina Rev War service from SC while living in Bradley Co. TN but application was refused. I will appreciate any comments or suggestions. Patsy Dearman Hand

    3. Hi! I am a descendant of William V. Pruett born in S. Carolina but he lived in Louisiana. One of his children was my gr.-gr.-gr.-grandfather, Samuel Pruett was born 1831 or 1832 in Georgia. I think Samuel Pruett married Lucinda Cargile, in Claiborne Parish, La. They had a son Samuel Albert Pruett born about 1858. I was told William V. Pruetts parents were Jacob (?) or Thomas (?) Pruett who was married to a Mary Seaborn. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it. I would love to find out about my family. I was born a Pruett as my parents were never married and I only have contact with my mothers family. Thanks Monica Keller

    2. ~0730 ct 19 Dec 97 ct Hi Linda The past few years I attended an annual reunion of the Boucher, Brite, Cagle, Hewlett, Mann, Moody, Morris, Pruitt, Schooling, Spilman, Woods and Wormington families who were pioneers in Lawrence Co, MO. (I subscribe to mailing lists about these families.) Since 1934 these families have been meeting in Sep at Monett, MO. From this year's meeting I borrowed some books to search my lines in the Boucher, Moody, Spilman and Woods families. Guess what! The loaner happened to include a Pruitt family book which appears to be a good source for your search and which may be interesting to other subscribers. Below are extract/reply to your two msgs sent 18 Dec 1977 > Thu, 18 Dec 1997 17:06:15 EST; PRUITTS > >... looking for information about a Samuel Pruitt/Prewett who >was married to Elizabeth Hawker. Dr. Haskell Pruett, Ph.D., published "The Pruett..Pruitt Family" in 1975, Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 75-26207 > Fri, 19 Dec 1997 00:09:37 EST; SAMUEL & ELIZABETH PRUITT > >Samuel PRUITT b. ca. 1684 in Northumberland County, VA > d. 1760 in Montgomery Co., MD >Married Elizabeth HAWKER 1720 in Frederick Co., MD In Dr Pruett's Book II, Ch 1, he identifies Samuel Pruitt Sr, and in Ch 2 - 3 his descendants as Samuel II and Samuel III. Below is an extract from Ch 1, pg 64: "...The will of SAMUEL PRUITT, Sr. was written 3 January 1760 and proved on 29 Apr 1760... son SAMUEL PRUITT, Jr. ... two daughters ... Sarah PRUITT who married a Mr BOYLSTON Priscilla PRUITT b. 1721 m. William DUVALL ..." Some other info Dr. Pruett published are: Samuel Jr was born 1705, and Priscilla was born 1721. (From these birth years, he derived Samuel Sr's birth year as ca 1684.) Elizabeth HAWKER was the daughter of Robert and Amy (SELBY) HAWKER, and Amy SELBY was the daughter of William and Mary SELBY. Elizabeth survived Samuel Sr and married John RIDDLE who was a widower with a large family. Both lived nearly 100 years. With warm regards, and let me take this moment to send all of you best wishes for a Merry Christmas and an Happy New Year! Cheers Bud [email protected] H. L. I have found her on the 1880 and 1900 census in the same county, and says she was born in Alabama, she died in 1908 in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas in 1908. I've not been able to find a death certificate, nor have I been able to find her in earlier census, at home with her father who is W. W. Pruitt according to his tombstone. I have not been able to find him on any census. I would love to find Pruitt or Glenn cousins that may have been in Calhoun County. - Jann ==== PRUITT Mailing List ==== Is the Pruitt list of any help to you? Have you made any connections? I am looking for any information about a Louis Alexander Pruitt's ancestors. Louis Alexander lived in Yell County in Arkansas around the time of the Civil War. I am also exploring the Melungeon connection since family oral tradition says that he was part Cherokee. His parents died during or shortly after the Civil War and it is their ancestry that I am searcing for. His mother's name was probably Elizabeth. Do you have any information to share or tips on searching to offer? Thank you. Virginia Pruitt ==== PRUITT Mailing List ==== Remember, only Pruitt list subscribers can post messages to the list. 1. RE: Pruett/Pruitt, Elisha
    2. Marsha, Hi, this is Trisha. I got your message through my sister since I've been off line for a couple monthes. I'm back. I'm very interested in trying to connect our Elisha with your Elisha. The fact that your Pruitts were Quakers in Indiana seems likely to me that we are indeed connected. In our Pruitts, James (the son of Elisha Sr. and maybe the brother of your Elisha) moved to Indiana about 1838 and joined the Quaker church in Hendricks County, Indiana. Also, their sister Elizabeth Pruitt moved there about the same time and shortly afterward married a Charles Wilson. Both families lived around the same area (Hendricks Co. and Marion Co.) until about 1880. James shows up on the 1880 census. Elizabeth and her husband died a few years before the 1880 census, but I found their children. You mentioned in your mail about several generations of Pruitt's since your Elisha. I am curious about the names and dates for those generations, if you would share them with us. I tried to go back to the Indiana monthly meeting minutes, but did not pick up anything on Elisha. I did, however, pick up some other names that I suspect could be his children. If I can get enough info..... locations in Indiana, children's names, etc., I can probably find them in census records and determine the connection. By the way, I am located in So. California and my sister (Virginia) in is Oregon. Since you are in Indiana, if we can get our connection confirmed, would you be willing to do some local legwork for all of us as we continue this search? I hope to hear back from you soon.
