Author: sharpe98 Surnames: Pruitt ott Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.pruitt/2145/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am Daphne Leota Pruitt's great Granddaughter. My mother tells me all the time about the story of how her and Richard Jesse Ott's love story. I have found parts very interesting and feel it is getting lost as history has went on. The was my mother tells it was that Richard Jesse Ott was stationed in DC where Daphne was working. This is where no one seems to know exactly how they met or anything else until when they barley knew each other and Daphne's sister had some medical issue she was called home to South Carolina. Richard was suppose to head over seas when he went MIA after he couldn't find Daphne and went to South Carolina after her. He went to her front step and propsed on the spot. They were wed and Daphne was sent to his families in Ohio while Richard went back to a very angry but forgiving general he was sent over seas while his new wife was in ohio with a family she had never known. They all had figured she was pregnant hense why he proposed so soon. It wasn't unt! il exactly 9 months after there wedding night that she had had the child. She also living in South Carolina had always had maids and never had to do any work on the farm now in ohio she was having to do all these things she had never done before. She had sent letters explaining to Richard all the things she had to do and RIchard had kept a journal. No one from my side of the family seems to know what has happened to that jounal or the letters. I was wondering if anyone has any information or well things inaccurate about how I was told it. I would really love to know more about this. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [PRUITT] Pruitt Tartan
    2. Hello all..... Actually, folks get all wound up in tartans, plaids and kilts. 8>) A Tartan is a pattern of interlocking stripes, running horizontally and vertically in cloth. The earliest known tartan in Scotland, the "Falkirk" tartan, has been dated to the third or fourth century AD. However, in other parts of the world, tartan cloth has been found dating to approximately 3000 BC. Wherever cloth was woven, weavers created created tartan designs. In fact, a woman's body dating back to 1200 BC which was found preserved in a Danish peat bog was dressed in a Tartan skirt which would lead one to believe that Tartans were brought to Ireland and Scotland by northern European Celts.
