Can any of you help me? We need any info that proves that Catherine Carter PRUITT b: 13 Jan 1823, De Kalb Co, GA d: 2 Feb 1915, Greer Co, OK m: 11 Feb 1838 Paulding Co, GA was the daughter of Diannah Hillsman FARRAR b:19 May 1806, Franklin Co, GA d: 16 Jan 1894 Chicasaw Indian Nation (near Fox, Carter Co, OK) who married Tillman Dixon PRUITT b:19 May 1801, Union Co, SC d: 31 Aug 1847 AL or MS. We are preparing a DAR application thru Catherine Carter PRUITT PONDER PRUETT EZELL and Diannah Hillsman FARRAR THOMPSON WHALLEY. There is a mention of her and her relationship on p. 80 (a family group sheet page) of "The Pruett .. Pruitt Family" by Haskell Pruett, circa 1975, however, I do not have any text page that mentions her, and believe that the DAR will not accept the Family Group Sheet page. If anyone has this book, or can look at the pages around p. 80 for me, I would be most grateful. This is the last generation that we need to prove for a successful application. v/r, Beverly Alexander Culpeper, VA I hear ethereal voices, persuasive, soft and still Daughter, if you don't remember us, who will? I am still looking for my P.P. or P.R. Prewett that was married to Elizabeth Lee Bedegrew on Jan.5, 1876 in Vernon County, Mo. Her parents, Jonathan and Sarah M. (Hammond) Bedegrew lived just across the State line in Bourbon Co., Kansas. Elizabeth was born 8/25/1860 in Ohio but NOTHING more is known about P.P. or P.R. Prewett. His initials of P.P. are on their marriage license but I have an envelope on which their daughter, Ada Violet Prewett Jensen wrote his name as P.R. Prewett. By the 1880 census Elizabeth and daughter Ada are living with her parents Jonathan & Sarah Bedegrew in Pleasant Twp., Greenwood County, Kansas and there is no mention of P.P./P.R. Prewett other than Elizabeth is listed as "married" on the census. Can anyone help me find my elusive P.P./P.R. Prewett? He is my genealogy brick wall! I am seeking descendants of Thomas Francis Byers, Thomas was married to Annie and one of their children was Lola Belle Byers. Lola married Madison D Pruett, and I have found a tree on ancestry that says their daughter married into the Briant family. I am hosting a tombstone dedication/memorial service in September for Lola's grandfather Redin Byers and would LOVE to connect with anyone living from the Pruett/Briant part of the family to have a representative there are the service. Last Friday the Citizen did a write up on what Im looking for, it can be found here http://www.thecitizen.com/~citizen0/node/30745 Hopefully there is someone on these lists related!!! I just noticed in my database that I have David Pruitt (~1740- >1830) and his brother Michael Pruitt (~1735-1813) both married to Rachel Dawson Erikson as their second wives. (David and Michael married Bright sisters as first wives.) I have no date for David and Rachel's marriage and 1804 for Michael and Rachel's marriage. Can someone help me sort this out? Thank you, Karin Brown
Thanks so much for the information, these are my ancestors. I have back to Thomas, born in England, 1616. Maybe we can share more info. I have entered all the Pruett's under that spelling since FTM would not connect them otherwise. My line is: Feland Clark Shadrach Mayshack David Shadrach William Thomas Henry, Jr and Sr. Thomas. Jefferson Co., TN 1879, Nov. 28 - MARTHA PREWETT, widow of JOHN PREWETT, applied for pension, P.O. Chestnut Hill, Tennessee. John Prewett served as a drummer in Capt. James Churchman's TN Militia, 4th Regt., from Nov. 13, 1814 to March 13, 1815, but no record of service and claim rejected. He married Martha in Cocke Co., TN in 1815 by George Carter (Martha b. 1800). John Mason's affidavit states he made coffin for John Prewitt, and that John Prewitt died in 1833. John was born in Spartanburg Co., SC about 1795 to Samuel Prewitt and Elizabeth.
I have a Samuel Pruett (possibly Prewett) born 1765 in Halifax Co. Va, with wife Elizabeth A. Does this sound like possibly your Samuel? I have no children for Samuel & Elizabeth. Debbie, My Pruitt and Johnson meet, but a whole lot earlier in the early to mid 1800 in SC>GA>AL and another Pruitt and Johnson mix in Northeastern KY in the early 1900's. Sorry, Cheryl
I am hoping someone on this list can help me find the birth parents of my friend. Here is the information we have: Gender: Male DOB: Sept. 3, 1952 Place: Fayetteville, Lincoln County, Tennessee Birthname: Unknown, but surname may have been Johnson-Pruitt as sister's name was Faye Nell Johnson-Pruitt. Who's Searching: Adoptee Searching For: Birth parents and siblings. BM's name: Unknown, but possibly Johnson-Pruitt BF's name: Unknown, but possibly Johnson-Pruitt Additional Information: My sister was about 2 years older and she was blind. Her birth date was June 10, probably 1950. We were adopted by the Lewis family when I was two years old. My sister has since died. My adoptive birth certificate shows I was born in Alabama, but my adoptive mother has told me I was really born in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Would like to know more about the surname "Johnson - Pruitt". Thanks for any help any of you may be able to give. Debbie (for John)
Debbie, I am sorry I cannot be of help. My Prewett and Johnson's are 2 different sides of the family and do not connect. To my knowledge neither of the sides were in Alabama or Tennessee. I would have been more than happy to help if I could have. Good luck with your search! In my Pruitt files I have Crawford Pruitt (b. abt 1814 in Madison Co, MO, d. 7/29/1896 in Gibson County, TN) with marriages to Margaret "Peggy" JOHNSON (m. 6/30/1835 in Madison County, MO) and Mary BLANKENSHIP (m. 11/1/1863). I have no proof of any of this data. I have 10 children for Crawford and Margaret: Sarah H. "Sally", Polly C., William B., Catharine Lucinda, Ann, Henry Franklin, Mariah Jane, Rebecca, Solomon and Louisa. It has been pointed out to me that my birth years for Solomon and Louisa are after the death of Margaret (Solomon b. 1857, Louisa b. 1861 and Maragret d. 1849). I have one child, Arabella, for Crawford and Mary Blankenship. Obviously I screwed up somewhere or I was given some off information. Can anyone help me straighten this out? Anyone in this line who can help, I'd really appreciate it. I descend from Sarah H. "Sally" and William B. Thanks so much, Karin Brown St. Louis, MO
Shirley, Sorry I am of no help. I am looking for a P.P. Prewett that married Elizabeth Lee Bedegrew (B: 8/25/1860) in Vernon Co., Mo. and had a daughter, Ada Violet Prewett (my great grandmother). McFarland of Pryor Creek Indian Territory, and Mrs. Hudson Tull, Mrs. John Eddleman and Wesly Pruett, all grown, and residing in this vicinity. =============== EL DORADO SUN, THURSDAY OCT. 13, 1904, pg. 3: Judge Pruet [sic] Dead Judge John Clark Pruet, was born in St. Louis County, Mo., June 13, 1831. Was married to Miss Elizabeth Athaly in St. Louis City on the 1st day of January 1853. To this union, twelve children were born — six boys and six girls. Eight children outran the father to the other land. Four survive him on this side of the river — one son, (Wesley) and three daughters — Mrs. T. J. McFarland of Pryor Creek, I. T. [Indian Territory], Mrs. Hudson Tull, and Mrs. John Eddleman of near El Dorado Springs, Missouri. He professed faith in Christ and became a member of the Methodist church, South, some forty-six years ago. All these years he has been a consistent, zealous, leading member. He resided in Knox county, Missouri, ten years, moving from there to Cedar county in October 1865, where he has since lived. He became a Mason some 33 years ago. Was elected Judge of the County Court for the Northern District of Cedar county, in 1896. Died of apopexy [sic] at the home wrought out by the labor of his aged hands, two miles south of El Dorado Springs, at 12:40 p.m., October 1st, 1904, aged 73 years, 3 months and 18 days. His mortal remains were followed to their last resting place in Clintonville Cemetery, by a vast concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. The funeral ceremonies were conducted by the Masonic brethern [sic], in the use of their most beautiful and impressive burial service. Thus has passed away another one of Cedar county’s pioneer citizens. A man of dauntless courage, indefatigable energy, and rugged and unswerving honesty has fallen out of the ranks. Judge Preut was a man of strong character, consequently, of decided likes and dislikes. His honesty of purpose prompted him to be outspoken and firm in whatever he thought was right. No suggestion of mere policy could induce him to swerve, in the least degree from the paths marked out by principle. Hence, men of vacillating minds and time-serveing [sic] character, were not the ones who most admired him. But to that class of persons who admire strict honesty of purpose, uprightness in conduct, and well developed moral courage, Judge Preut was an ideal man. We stood at his bedside and watched the great battle between life and death, and we saw death get the mastery. We looked again after the monster’s work was done, and beheld a placid, peaceful counteance [sic] that bespoke sweet relief. We could then imagine that we could almost hear glad shouts of the hosts of the redeemed, as they welcomed him to the embrace of the loved ones gone before. Looking next at the aged form of the weeping wife, who for fifty long years shared his earthly joys and sorrows, I could but think of how few days remain for her to walk life’s pathway alone, and of how soon she too may enjoy the glad reunion with a now absent husband and children in the land of the leal [sic]. The heart-broken and sorrowing daughters are admonished by one who loves them: Emulate his noble life. He has left you an example you need not hesitate to imitate — a path you need not fear to tread. By his influence he still lives — he still speaks. His life of good deeds has caused a ripple to the sea of humanity — which will roll on throughout time and into eternity’s shoreless sea. Never can pass from the mind of the writer hereof, many impressions made by this good man. He was my friend — he was my brother. I loved him for the words of counsel and advice given me in the days of youth and young manhood. For his friendship in the day of need, I shall not soon forget him. Farewell husband, father, friend. Sacred be thy memory until the day in which we shall meet again. — J. P. A______k (unreadable) ======================== FROM THE EL DORADO SUN, THURSDAY NOV. 10, 1904, pg. 3: In Memoriam “It is once appointed unto man to die.” In the fullness of years brother John C. Pruet has gone to his rest. A man of exceptionally strong individuality, of vigorous intellect and sturdy frame he was a pioneer in thought and deed. Truly a good man and Mason has been called away. Brother Pruet was a charter member of Clintonville Lodge No. 485 A. F. & A. M. a devoted and faithful member. The lodge deplores the loss by his death, to his family and to the lodge and extends brotherly sympathy to his widow and children. It is directed that the charter of this lodge be draped, and the members of this lodge wear the usual badge of mourning for a departed brother. J. B. Warren W. E. Dawson J. F. List - I've gotten two emails from this site and they do require a credit card for the free trial. I didn't give them mine, and am glad of the warning. Karin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi Everyone: The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own. In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you? One person who recently fell for the come-on had his/her account dinged not once, but twice. It is time to remind folks on your state and county mailing lists about these scoundrels. It has been a couple of years since we have mentioned this. Permission is granted to pass this on.
