Jacqui I don't think this is the right Manuel Fernandez because he died before 1910 in Honolulu. In the 1909 city directory Mary Fernandez is listed as widowed of Manuel A. Fernandez living on Beretania St. I know for a fact they lived on Beretania St. My grandmother and my mother lived at that same address. Jose where did you find out that Manuel A. Fernandez was from Ponta do Sol? Does the birth date of 1945 fit?? Darlene, I am suggesting that it is a Manuel Fernandes, born in July 28, 1838 in Ponta do Sol, Madeira. His parents were António Fernandes and Felisberta da Luz (I have already indicated that da Luz is not a surname. It means Light) The father's name leads me to believe that Manuel is named after him and thus Manuel António. He was single at the time. This Manuel Fernandes requested a passport for Hawaii in 1883- Box 34, Process 87.
