Yes my G. Grandmother Joana was a Barboza as far as I have known , but know saying that I have seen my grandparents marriage certificate and it had my G. Grandmother's name on it and it read: Joana Mendes. Which I wonder at the time if it was a mistake......... maybe not then. I am thinking that they are cousins if I had to guess. But thank you. You have been most helpful. Thanks again Sophie Sophie, If you do a search on the Madeira Archives you possibly find these two individuals. They may be as follows: Manuel Fernandes Pombo married Joana Mendes da Encarnação (did she change her name to Barbosa?) in 1904. This is the only Manuel Fernandes Pombo married to a Joana in Ponta do Pargo and for that matter in the whole island. António Fernandes Pombo married Maria Clara de Jesus in 1910. Same age? Are they twins? Cousins? If these seem to be the people you are searching, you should request a copy of the marriage document. It will contain the parents. Good luck. Pombo both from Ponto do Pargo they were together on the ship Olympic 1912. they were both 29. If this is the Manuel Pombo that I am related to he would born about 1881 his wife was Joanna (Barboza) Pombo. Thanks you.
