There were two ships with the name Stirlingshire. The ship that your ancestors and mine sailed on was a smaller wooden hulled vessel built in New Zealand in 1848, pictured above. Her home port in 1885 - 1886 was Youghal, County Cork, Ireland, and her official number was 24868. The signal flag letters were PCNT. There is a book that has a great detail description of the voyage on that ship in 1885 by a Mr. Philip L. Pasquini. The book is call "Indentured Immigrants - A Jewish family odyssey from Madeira to the Sandwhich Islands". I am trying to find relatives in the de Freitas Braz clan! My great grand father was John Freitas Braz 1866 Madeira, Portugal who immigrated to Hawaii as a child! He died in 1937 in Kilauea, Kauai, Hawaii! John Freitas Braz married Maria Cordoza de Jesus about 1887-1888 when she was 18! Maria was born May 20, 1869 in Madeira, Portugal and died Jan. 29, 1948! Maria's father was Francisco Gonzales Cordoza de Jesus, a whaler from Madeira, Portugal. My grandmother was Antonia Freitas Kung born Jan. 3, 1901 in Kilauea, Kauai, Hawaii died June 21, 1979 in Honolulu, Hawaii! My grandmother was buried at Diamond Head Memorial Park!
