    2. Hi Everyone I am new to this good but not new to the only roots groups. I am throwing this out there and not sure of any rules I might break, so I am sorry if I do. I am researching my grandfathers family which are from village of Santo Antonio, Madeira, His name is José Pereira Camacho and was born 1898 and he had a brother name Antonio Pereira Camacho born 1895 they both came to US. I did find out that they had two other brothers and a sister with all died in there childhood. There parents where Joao Pereira Camacho and Antonia de Freitas fathers surname Basenga. If anyone has information would be helpful thanks Bob Camacho Researching the Island of Terceira for da Costa, Evangelho, Pacheco, Ferriera Researching the Island of Graciousa for Reis Researching the Island of Madeira for Camacho Researching Brazil for Evangelho

    3. Hello. You should checkout the Madeira Archives at www.arquivo-madeira.org/homepage.php?lang=1. If you can read Portuguese remove everything from the ? to the end. It is pretty interesting on what you can find our within the archives. Good luck. 3. Bob, I am sure we are not forgetting about you but Camacho and Santo António is a lot to digest! In our list archives you will find a lot of messages on these two topics. Santo António is not a village but a parish of the City of Funchal, the capital of Madeira. However it really was a village unto itself! The names you mention are not unfamiliar to me. Unfortunately my records are presently in a slight mess. I will get around to it! I am a Fernandes Veloza from Santo António and naturally we intermarried with a lot of the clans from there. If you can find an e-mail from Paulo Perneta around 2010 or earlier, he wrote about the clans of Santo António and the interesting characteristics of this parish which eventually dominated the economic life of Funchal- aside from the English colony.  Paulo was to write a major work on this parish, but we seemed to have lost him on this list. If he  is around I am going to Madeira for about 7 weeks this summer and I am looking for him! If I am not mistaken another member of this list, Miguel, wrote about the Camacho family which seems to have a couple of different origins. ...and then you add Bazenga! Well that's Santo António! The Bazengas are very much alive and still living in the parish. One of "them" was a Secretary in the Madeiran Regional government. On another note for all interested  members of the list, I heard in the Madeiran newscast that Family Search has now signed an agreement with the Madeiran Government to access and digitalize all documents in the regional archives. it seems it is good news. I am not an user of family search. Could anyone tell me what it will change for us? Now I understand that it will take 4 years to complete the digitalization. I guess by then I will learn a couple of things.
