Hello everyone, I am new to this subscription. My ancestors lived in the area of Canhas, Tabua and Ponta do Sol. My grandfather, Antonio DeJesus escaped Madeira Islands (to avoid to enlist with the military) around 1906. He went to Brazil. According to his U.S. Citizenship application, it stated that he lived in Santos, Brazil before coming to Bedford, Massachusetts via Ellis Island. I know nothing about Santos... Have any other Madeira people settled in Santos? Is there any genealogical society in Santos? How can or whom shall I write to? According to the 1930 Federal Census (U.S.A.), it stated he was married before. I do not know if he married someone in Santos or in Bedford.
