Denise, Your finding that Alexander Agrella and Francisca Agrella arrived in NY on 4 Sep 1851 on the ship Sarah Thorndick fills in a major piece of my family history. As I told you in my earlier e-mail, we have Francisca Agrellas passport issued in Funchal in 1858 for passage to New York. We also have a document that said that Francisca and Alexander intended to go to the United States 1851 following their marriage. They were married in August 1851. The passport being issued in 1858 made it appear that their plans changed. The finding of this arrival record means that they did come to New York in 1851. The passport means that Francisca made a return visit to Madeira. I believe this would mean that the three sons listed as traveling with her would have been born in the United States. This also increases the possibility the Jorge name in the passport is the same persons as George W. DeGrella. The other two sons are Jose and Joao. The passport also lists "her niece Maria who is 22 years old". Do you know if there is a database for birth records and baptism records for Brooklyn between the 1850s? David DeGrella Tennessee, USA.
