I've been away for a while due to some factors, among them email problems and job change (I'm now working at Funchal Central Hospital), but I hope to be more active in the near future. I apologize for all the personal emails that were left hanging all this time, I hope I'll answer them all shortly, though. Special excuses to Nancy and David d' Agrella, who I've had the uttermost pleasure of knowing here at Funchal last April, I hope to get in touch with you again. Some short messages, more detailed information will follow: Nancy & David d Agrella: I've been in a short hollyday (5 days) in Jardim do Mar, where all the Madeiran Jardins came from, and it continues to be a delightful spot, despite the recent changes (some would call progress ;) ). My parents have met an old ladie on her 80's who still runs a grocery as old as herself in Estreito da Calheta, her name being Agrela Coutinho. She was still a bit scared about some Americans who had come there some time ago, filming and asking a lot of questions! Could it be you? ;) Stacy Dean: I've more info in the Fernandes Luís, more details on this soon. Cece Camara: I can't find your last email about "filha de Foam", can you resend it please, if you still have it? Pat Corbera: Luís de Melo was trying to get in touch with you some time ago, I've gave him your email. Denise d' Antona: I've linked your Fernandes Neves to mine, and also have more info on the newspaper your grandfather owned. Almost completed lines (and more closely related to me): Gomes Perneta (S. Roque, Funchal) Gomes Jardim (Stº António) Marques (Lombo dos Aguiares, Stº António, though they came from Santana) Andrade (S. Roque) Fernandes Luís (Stº António) Fernandes da Silva (Stº António) Gomes Henriques (Câmara de Lobos) Alves/Fonseca/Teles (Câmara de Lobos) Rodrigues Lourenço/Nascimento (S. Pedro-Funchal/Ponta do Pargo) Fernandes Neves (Stº António) Cairos (Stº António) Rodrigues de Gouveia (Stº António) Fernandes Camacho (Stº António) Rodrigues de Aguiar (Stº António) Currently researching these locations: Stº António Câmara de Lobos (lots of info about these lines) Estreito de Câmara de Lobos Other info of interest: The new archive has opened, and the conditions are fantastic, with a brand new room with 5 or 6 good microfilm machines, and 4 or 5 new PCs where you can consult the Baptisms, Passport and Marriage databases. You have to pay a fee of 5 euros, and due to conservation measures you can't read the actual parish books, only the microfilmed info. In my opinion that's just as well. :) I've been reading the book "Familias de Gaula", I strongly counsel it to everyone doing genealogic research in Madeira. Lots of info on the families from the East coast and Machico capitany. Someone, maybe Pat Corbera or Cece Camara, asked me about the book "Arquivo da Familia Ornelas Vasconcelos". I've bought it and I counsel its purchase to everyone related with that family. If you can't afford it, there is an edition online at Nesos.net. That's all for now, hope to get in touch soon again.
