A couple of tips: Once you get to the search page, "bookmark" it and then you can go right back to it in the future, bypassing the Arquivo Regional da Madeira opening pages. You can broaden your search for a particular surname by just typing in that last name without a first name; i.e., Pitta. You will receive all records pertaining to Pitta. If you are not certain about the first name of an individual, i.e., you don't know whether it's João, José, or Joaquim Pitta, use the percent symbol to expand your search: Jo% Pitta. You will receive all Pitta records with the first name containing the "jo" combination.
